NJPC Parents Empowerment Academy

Parents Comments on the Parents' Empowerment Academy Trainings:

......What they did not count on, I know the law.  I owe that to you and NJPC!  Thank God and I really mean Thank God that I came to your Empowering Parents Classes, then went on to a Wrightslaw Conference.  That knowledge has helped me in my fight for the rights of my son and for the others in his class and those who follow him.

The NJPC Parents’ Empowerment Academy is a comprehensive training and education program that enables parents of children with emotional and behavioral challenges to appropriately and collaboratively negotiate with government agencies and other system partners. The Parents’ Empowerment Academy offers free workshops, trainings and certifications to parents, caregivers and professionals on a variety of topics related to improving the quality of life for families raising children with emotional and behavioral challenges.  Our trainings are DYFS approved for certification of foster, adoptive and kinship providers.  The primary objectives of The Academy include the opportunity for parents to: (1) enhance their skills (2) provide valuable input towards the development and implementation of services for their children (3) build their capacity to serve as keepers for the vision of "effective and timely services for children with emotional and behavioral challenges" (4) empower other parents through the use of education, advocacy and supportive services and (5) better serve their local communities. The key to the Parents' Empowerment Academy is that parents, after graduation, can then deliver workshops in their local communities with the support of the NJPC and other parents who have graduated resulting in increased access to appropriate care and treatment for their children. The Academy will not only empower Parents, Professionals, Families, and Communities, but will empower a Statewide Parent Movement.

The Parents Empowerment Academy offers training and certification in the following areas:
